Nearly a year after five kilograms of heroin were found in a traffic stop on I-40, a woman is now sentenced to five years in prison, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
Bereniz Cavazos, 31, was pulled over on an interstate in Fayette County on October 6, 2021.

Authorities said she and her two children had drugs in her car, hidden in a car battery inside her Ford Explorer.
Later that month, a federal jury indicted Cavazos on four counts, and the 31-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of possessing heroin with the intent to distribute it in May 2022, the Justice Department said.
On Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, Cavazos was sentenced to five years in federal prison without parole, followed by five years of supervised release, the Justice Department said.
