Nashville, Tennessee. (WSMV) – A business that has yet to open in East Nashville is already dealing with vandalism.
The owners say stones were thrown into the windows of their building and they are now working to ensure that doesn’t happen again.
The new salon, which has been preparing to open in Gallatin Pike, has now had more than three windows broken, but not only are the owners concerned about the damage, they want to know what they can do to help solve the crime.
“I found rocks and broken windows everywhere,” said salon owner Remy Joffrey.
After months of renovations, Joffray and his wife discovered damage to the building on Tuesday night.
“It was a huge blow, really, it hurt us every penny,” Joffrey said.
Some rocks even landed on some equipment, which Joffrey said would cost about $600 to repair.
“It’s a little frustrating when there’s so much other broken stuff to fix,” Joffray said.
Joffray installed cameras to ward off vandals, but said the issue needed to be addressed.
“We need to clear the streets so that there’s no place where someone might go to ‘yes, I’ll throw a stone’ and pile up a pile of rubbish, and I think that’s the best way to deal with that,” Joffray.
Joffray said his salon will offer free haircuts to the homeless, free showers at the back of their building and will have fundraising opportunities.
“Whether it’s homelessness or mental health job opportunities, we need to really address these issues,” Joffray said.
As they work to fix their windows, business owners say they’ll be looking for more ways to help prevent crime.
