New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has been conducting a civil investigation into former President Donald Trump’s companies, announced that former President Donald Trump, his three adult children and his company have filed charges of widespread fraud. a major lawsuit.

James’ announcement comes nearly a week after The New York Times reported that she rejected an offer from Trump’s lawyers to resolve her investigation of the Manhattan-based Trump Organization.

James’ office is investigating whether the company may have fraudulently misrepresented the value of various real estate assets to obtain financial benefits in the form of better loan and insurance rates and tax breaks.

Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and accused James, a Democrat, of being politically motivated to investigate the former Republican president.

In August, Trump appeared before James’ lawyers to testify. He invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more than 440 times while refusing to answer sworn questions.

Donald Trump Jr., who runs the Trump Organization with his brother Eric, answered investigators’ questions under oath in early August, as did their sister Ivanka Trump. Ivanka was previously a Trump Organization executive.

Eric Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment rights more than 500 times during his sworn trial in the October 2020 investigation, according to a court filing in January.
