NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Nashville business is looking for answers after a porch pirate took something employees never thought would be stolen.
Office buildings along Foster Creighton Drive in Berry Hill are now missing a large potted plant that has sat on the front porch for years. Employees said they had no idea why someone would steal it and not take anything else.
“It’s just random. It’s weird,” said employee Sam Sarbacker. “You’d think someone would be interested in stealing something else, like a car or something. Just stealing potted plants would be weird.”
Security footage shows a woman parking her car at an office in the middle of the night before getting out of the car in her pajamas, smoking a cigarette. Then she picked up the potted plant and put it in her trunk. She drove off without stealing a second pot or other porch decorations.

Sarbacker said that when his colleagues first told him what happened, he thought it was a joke.
“These things are heavy,” Sarbacker said of the jars. “I can’t imagine anyone grabbing this and throwing it in their car. But she sorted it out quickly and didn’t take the other one. I guess she didn’t have room or just wanted one.”
“She took dirt, plants and everything,” said employee Charles Watkins. “They didn’t even dump the dirt, they just took it with them.”
Other businesses in the main industrial area said they were also starting to experience problems with people stealing in the middle of the night and on weekends. These include multiple catalytic converters photographed a few weeks ago.
Despite concerns about rising crime, Watkins said they were trying to make it easy by putting up posters of the missing jar and offering to forgive the woman for returning the jar.
“If I could say something about the culprits of pot stealing, maybe quit smoking,” Watkins said. “It’s bad for your health, but if you need pot badly, you can get pot. Just quit smoking.” “
