Taylor Swift thanked her fans for “doing something exciting” as her new album broke Spotify’s record for most-played album in a single day.

The pop star’s latest work, Midnights, sparked a lot of interest when it went live on Friday — and made a splash with a few swear words.

Less than 24 hours later, the music streaming giant announced that the album had accumulated the most number of streams in a single day in the platform’s history.

Swift reacted to the news, writing: “How could I be so lucky to have you guys do shocking things here?!

“Like what just happened?!”

That took her away from the intimate indie songwriting of her last two albums, Folklore and Evermore, in favor of electronica, synth-pop, and sometimes hip-hop-influenced beats.

Swift once again co-wrote most of the album with Jack Antonov, frontman of the rock band Bleachers.

In her Instagram post to commemorate the album’s release, she shared a photo of herself with her collaborators and specifically mentioned Antonov as her “co-pilot.”

“Midnight is a collage of intensity, highs and lows, ebb and flow,” she said.

“Life can be dark, starry, cloudy, scary, exciting, hot, cold, romantic or lonely. It’s like midnight.”
