University Communications at FHSU
For the 2022-2023 academic year, Fort Hays State University business and entrepreneurship students have received more than 270 student scholarships totaling more than $320,000.
The awards, announced Thursday afternoon at the WR and Yvonne Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship Awards Ceremony at the FHSU Memorial Union Ballroom, were presented to both on-campus and online students.
“We hear a lot, but the ‘it needs a village’ statement is true,” FHSU provost Jill Arensdorf said in an introductory statement.
Ahrensdorf said she was grateful for the scholarship opportunity offered as an undergraduate, which allowed her to graduate with little debt.
“Thank you for supporting our students at FHSU and the Robbins School of Business and Entrepreneurship,” she said. “You have made a significant investment in our students at Fort Hays and have provided opportunities for students through this investment.”
This gratitude is reflected in Dr. Muhammad Chishty, Dean of FHSU Robbins College.
“There are many donors who make gifts to the College of Business and Entrepreneurship to support a variety of programs and extracurricular activities that enrich the educational experience of our students,” he said. “We appreciate the gifts that enrich the lives of our students.”
Robbins Ambassadors Jessalyn Kirchhoff and David Schulte, who each received an ambassador stipend of $5,000, talked about the support they received as FHSU undergraduates and the impact that support has had on their educational experiences.
“I grew up in a place where everyone knew everyone,” said Smith Center native Kirchhoff. “In every corner, there are people waiting to help friends. When I arrived at Hayes, I immediately felt the same support from Robbins College. Whenever a student is in need, there is a steady stream of people willing and willing provide help.”
Cole Engel, associate professor of accounting and co-chair of the Robbins School of Business and Entrepreneurship Scholarship Committee, thanked the donors who contributed to his academic success.
“You hear about a lot of people sitting in these chairs, participating in these fellowships as students,” he said when introducing the Ph.D. Cole Engel Scholarship, $2,000 for three students. “That was me too, about 15 years ago. I got some of the same awards. They helped me and now it’s my turn to help you.
