New York City is advertising a “somewhat bloodthirsty” man who isn’t opposed to “mass murder” as the new rat czar.
Mayor Eric Adams’ government is looking for someone to lead the city’s fight against rodents.
Although the official title is “Director of Rodent Reduction,” the role is known as the Rat Czar. Its salary ranges from $120,000 to $170,000 (£97,700 to £138,430).
“The ideal candidate is highly motivated, somewhat bloodthirsty, and determined to look at all solutions from every angle, including improving operational efficiency, data collection, technological innovation, waste management and wholesale slaughter,” the ad reads.
New York City It has struggled for generations to control its rodent population, and recently it has been seeing more and more rats in its parks and streets.
Under former Mayor Bill de Blasio, the pests put in a multimillion-dollar effort to introduce more trash collection and better home inspections in targeted neighborhoods.
The city also uses dry ice to suffocate rats in their hideouts.
When Mayor Adams was mayor of Brooklyn, he demonstrated a trap that used a bucket full of poisonous soup to drown rats lured by the smell of food.

Now his administration is looking for a public figure to represent the city’s eradication and education efforts.
“Cunning, greedy and prolific, NYC’s rats are known for their survival skills, but they don’t run the city — we do,” the post added.
Candidates should have good communication skills, a keen sense of humor, and the requirement of “leading the way, exterminating rats by hand, authoritative and efficient”.
