Man arrested for stealing $60K worth of items from Jonesboro company

Jonesboro, Ark. (KAIT) — A man was arrested after Jonesboro police said he was creating fake orders for his employer while smuggling orders for himself.

Tuesday, November. Investigators from the JPD Street Crime Unit and Brooklands Police executed a search warrant on a home on Jan. 22 as the investigation began at Gearhead Outfitters in Jonesboro.

According to a news release, the store’s merchandise stockist, Christian Torres, was caught creating false order and reservation documents in customers’ names and taking merchandise out of the store’s back door.

The stolen items totaled nearly $60,000, including specialty bicycles, sunglasses, tires and packing materials.

Officers later found multiple bikes in Torres’ garage, packaged as if they were ready to be shipped.

Craighead County District Judge Tommy Fowler charged Torres with shoplifting, theft and drug possession. He received a $25,000 cash bond.
