Lexington equals previous homicide record over weekend

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — Lexington tied last year’s homicide record over the weekend.

So far in 2022, 37 people have been killed. The most recent occurred early Sunday morning at Oxford Circus.

Lexington’s first homicide of the year occurred on January 3rd. D’Andre Malik Green, 24, was shot and killed on Anniston Drive, police said.

May was the city’s deadliest month of 2022 with 11 homicides. All but two were gun-related.

Two of the cases in May stemmed from domestic violence, police said. Nikki James is accused of stabbing her son and daughter at their Rogers Road flat. Steven Wilson shot and killed his wife and two daughters at their home on Caywood Avenue, police said.

Of the 37 homicides this year, 32 were gun-related. Seven of the victims were 25 years old or younger, with the youngest being just 10 years old.

Fifteen of the 37 homicides this year are still under investigation, including the first homicide of the year on Jan. 3, according to the Lexington police website.
