Heidi’s Darn Good Cookies expands sweets business with new Bay City store

Bay City, Michigan — Heidi’s Darn Good Cookies is expanding its sweets business with a new Bay City location.

The newest location of this gourmet cookie bakery opened in August at 111 N. Linn St. near Midland Street in Bay City.

Heidi’s offers over 50 varieties of cookies, ice cream cookie sandwiches, cookie pies, cookie cutters and party platters. Cookie flavors include Sugar, Birthday Cake, Lemon, Cookies & Cream, Oatmeal Raisin, White Chocolate Macadamia, Snickers, Coconut Delight, Red Velvet and Peanut Butter.

Business owner Heidi Niernberg said her bakery produces about 1,800 dozen cookies a month, or about 260,000 cookies a year.

Niernberg started her biscuit business from her home in Bay City in 2016 and opened her first storefront in 2017 at the City Market in downtown Bay City, which closed last year. Heidi’s Darn Good Cookies is also a tenant at the SVRC market in downtown Saginaw, before Niernberg opened a store in 2018 at 2903 Pierce Road, Kochville Township, Saginaw County, near the Saginaw Valley State University campus.

Niernberg said she had wanted to return to Bay City since leaving City Market in early 2020, and her new location near Midland Street was promising.

“There’s a lot of really cool stuff happening in that area that I love,” she said. “I like the development of that field.”

She also thanked her loyal customers.

“We’re very lucky, we do have a lot of people who love cookies,” she said.
