Another West Palm Beach business has come forward as a victim of check laundering. This is the second business to report the problem in the last month. The first business was a doctor’s office in a shopping center along Country Avenue and 45th Street. The second is an engineering firm across the street. Digging Deeper: WPBF News 25 Investigates Rob Rennebaum, president of the engineering firm Simons & White, said he caught the burglar on surveillance video over the weekend and filed a report with the USPS. Video shown to us from a camouflaged Nest camera in a nearby tree shows two different thieves in two different cars showing up at different times over the weekend and appearing to have master keys to the mall’s commercial mailboxes. Since late October, checks in mailed envelopes have been removed and cash amounts and names have changed, Simons & White President Rennebaum said. Previous coverage: West Palm Beach doctor victimized by check laundering Rennebaum says this has happened about a half-dozen times and more than $100,000 has been stolen to date. “It’s too bad. It’s a huge problem for our business. We had to change our accounts. We’ve stopped sending all mail to this joint mailbox,” Rennebaum said. “Normally we would be giving out Christmas bonuses and our accounts would be slightly lower. Major bonuses are being delayed until this issue is resolved.” WPBF 25 News reached out to West Palm Beach Police and USPS for comment on the investigation and the video that captured the thief, and are waiting for a reply.Follow us on social media: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
