Fielmann AG said on Tuesday it would acquire Spanish optics and acoustics retailer Medical Optica Audicion from MFI Group to strengthen its market position in the country.

In addition to Medical Optica Audicion, the German eyewear company said it would acquire Elaboria, a surface treatment and glass laboratory, and Medop, a developer and manufacturer of personal protective equipment, from Bilbao-based MFI.

Fielmann did not disclose financial details of the deal, but said the three divisions would have sales of 35 million euros ($37.1 million) in 2021 and employ 285 people.

The acquisition will take effect on December 1. 31, the company said.

CEO Marc Fielmann said: “Together we will continue to transform the market, benefit our customers and achieve a market leading position in the medium term.”

In 2020, Fielmann acquired Optica & Audiologia Universitaria, a Catalan optical retail chain. After gaining market share in Spain, sales in Spain are expected to reach 139 million euros in 2022, Fielmann said.
