A US lottery holder wins $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot | US News

A ticket holder has won an estimated $1.35bn (£1.1bn) in the US Mega Millions lottery.

After three months of draws that failed to produce a winner, the winning numbers were finally announced on Friday.

They are: 30, 43, 45, 46, 61 and Gold Mega Ball 14.

Lottery organizers said the jackpot, won in Maine, was the fourth-largest in U.S. history.

The $1.35 billion grand prize is awarded to winners who have been annuitized for more than 29 years.

The winner almost always chooses the cash option – Friday night’s draw was estimated at $724.6m (£593.4m).

The next jackpot is $20 million (£16.3 million), with a cash option of $10.7 million (£8.7 million), suggesting an estimated $1.35 billion prize winner.

There was no winner in 25 consecutive draws, but the streak ended with someone beating odds of 1 in 302.6 million to win the jackpot.

Played in 45 states plus Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Mega Millions originally started in 1996 as a mega game.
