At just 10 years old, Isla Davis turned her passion for baking into a full-fledged business, launching Isla’s Divine Desserts, a business out of a shed on her parents’ property Small dessert company.
The unprecedented success of Isla’s business prompted her mother, Alyson, to quit her job to become her full-time business partner, an entrepreneurial crossroads she sees as “better to come together.”
“I had the idea of starting my own business, and I kept seeing ‘Kids Baking Championships’ and stuff like that. I knew a lot of them had their own businesses, and I wanted to be that,” says baking entrepreneur Iss Isla Davis said on “Morning with Maria” as she celebrated her 11th birthday with host Maria Bartiromo on Wednesday morning.

Ella turned her passion into profit by finding inspiration in the hit Broadway musical “Waitress,” about a small-town baker who turns his dream into reality.
Once the idea for her own baking business was born, Isla’s mother set up a table at the end of the driveway with an umbrella, and the rest was history.

“One day when I came home from school, my mom put up a little table at the end of the driveway and we had a really small little table with an umbrella and our logo on it. And that’s how we started, but then We ended up building our shed. Then we had our racks. And then, here we are.”
Isla’s mother Alyson said the business got off to a “very slow start”, but with the help of their own website and social media, it took off suddenly. With the business growing substantially, Alyson quickly realized that her daughter could not meet all her baking needs on her own.

“Time is the enemy, we just don’t have enough time. So, I decided it was best to get together with Isla and form a partnership. So now I help her bake bread, [Isla] Kind of telling me what to do in the morning, and she helps prepare everything so we know what’s going to happen each day,” Alison said Wednesday.

Isla told host Bartiromo that her decision to launch “Isla’s Divine Desserts” taught her a lot about business management and pricing, a skill she wouldn’t have mastered otherwise at a young age.

“When I started my business, I thought I was going to go to my parents and do all the business because I didn’t think I would be very good at it. But I’m learning how to price and how much stuff costs, and how much it costs to make things. I think it’s a great skill to learn. So I’m glad I started doing it,” Isla said.
