1 dead, 16 injured in Osceola County SR-60 crash

A fatal crash in Osceola County closed the road Wednesday morning. State troopers blocked the road as they continued to piece together what happened in the crash. The roadblocks had been cleared as of 5:15 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Crews were called to a crash on SR-60 and Peavine Roads west of Yeehaw Junction around 6 a.m., according to Osceola County Fire officials. The accident involved a 2017 Dodge Ram, a 2007 Mitsubishi van and a coach. In the latest update, officials said one person inside a pickup truck was killed. The individual was identified as a 52-year-old man from Port St. Lucie. The drivers of both the semi and pickup were airlifted to hospital in critical condition, the FHP said. A total of 14 people on the bus were injured with non-life threatening injuries. The people on the bus were Polk County Correctional Facility inmates on their way to Okeechobee’s work release program, officials said. They were taken to hospital and are expected to be fine. Investigators believe the westbound Dodge Ram entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to overtake. As a result, it went straight into the path of the van. Both drivers swerved to try to avoid the crash, but they collided. Buses cannot avoid collisions. NOTE: An update from Osceola fire officials says two people were killed and 18 injured, but the Florida Highway Patrol says this is incorrect. The helicopter footage below shows the scene
